Is Your Job Killing You

I’m sure that you have heard someone say that sitting so much is killing us.  Well, science is proving more and more that it is true.  Our sedentary lifestyles are not only lowering our quality of life, but it also seems to be shortening our lives.  So, if you sit a lot at work, please pay attention.

Healthy JobThe Problem

Not all that long ago we lived in a world where people got up early, worked physically demanding jobs (mainly agricultural), and spent very little time sitting.  It was kind of like we were getting paid to work out.  Now, for the first time in human history, we sit all day at our jobs, head home and spend the rest of the night on the couch.  The health problems this causes range from a saggy butt and loss of muscle to life threatening diseases.

The Solution

If sitting all day is bad for you, the answer must be standing all day, right?  WRONG!  Standing all day has problems associated with it too.  The key is to mix it up.  If you have a desk job, take time to stand up and move around.  Find a place to stretch for a few minutes each day.  Go for a walk around your building when you get a break.  If you on;y get one chance to do this each day, do it right after lunch.  Make time to workout before or after work.  OK, this is where most people tell me, “I don’t have time to work”.  If you are one of those people, CLICK HERE.  You do not need to suddenly start spending an hour a day in the gym.  Remember, anything is better than nothing.  Go for a walk, ride a bike, grab a Beachbody Workout Program, just do something.

I know that it can be difficult to get motivated after a long day of work.  You have had a long day, and you don’t feel like working out.  That is where you need to really think about what is important.  Is it more important for you to catch up on your favorite show, or do something to help you live a longer, healthy life?  I really hope you pick the second one.  If that doesn’t get you going, maybe READING THIS will give you a little more motivation to get healthy!
