Why EVERYONE Trying To Lose Weight Should Lift Weights

I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of seeing “Miracle Weight Loss” diets.  I am going to save you hours of research with some simple advice, and then I am going to focus on the importance of lifting weights when you are trying to lose weight.  OK, hours of research on diets saved, here we go!  THERE IS NO MIRACLE DIET!  The simple truth is that an overall healthy diet was, is, and will always be the most effective weight loss diet.  Fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, lean meat, whole grains (unless you have a gluten intolerance), WATER, WATER, WATER!  Now that we have settled that, let’s look at the main reason for this article, which is why everyone trying to lose weight should strength train.

Everyone has a metabolism that is unique to them.  This is why what works for one person often does not work for another.  However, there are some things that are universal.  For starters, if you start losing weight strictly by cutting calories, your metabolism will typically begin to slow down.  This happens because your fat cells make a chemical called leptin.  This chemical helps tell your brain when you are full.  When you go on a diet, your leptin levels often decrease.  This results in your metabolism slowing down as a way to conserve energy.

The solution is actually pretty simple.  Pick things up and put things down!  When you build muscle, you actually speed up your metabolism.  You could keep eating what you are now and start lifting weights, and as you build muscle, you will burn fat.  Combine that with health eating and you see changes like this! So, what is the best workout program to use while trying to lose weight?  Honestly, there isn’t a program that works for everyone.  That is why I suggest Beachbody on Demand.  You can access dozens of Beachbody workouts, including the best selling program of all time, P90X, INSTANTLY!  If you don’t find one you like, cancel.  However, if you don’t find a program that you like, you probably didn’t actually try any of them.
