And the number 1 drink in America is…….

It seems like bottled water wasn’t around one day, and the next it was everywhere. In fact, it is the number 2 selling drink in America. So, what is number 1? You guessed it, soda!

If you are not a soda drinker, you can skip down to the workout. Have fun!

no soda challengeIt is no secret that soda is bad for you, and yet we drink it more than anything else. Why? Well, it’s cheap, it’s everywhere, and of course, it tastes good. There are sodas in every flavor imaginable, something for everyone to like. I personally believe (and many many people agree with me) that soda is one of the biggest contributors to why we are so out of shape, and why so many diseases are becoming more and more common.

I am not expecting you to never drink soda again. I have not even made that commitment myself, although I should. I am going to suggest cutting back a little at a time, and watching your body become very thankful for it.

Regular or diet, which is better? OK, this is a bit of a hot topic these days. I have had this argument with a lot of people that are trying to lose weight. Which should you be drinking, regular or diet soda? My personal belief is that if you insist on drinking soda, you should be drinking regular, not diet. What? But the calories!!!! Yes, I suggest that people who refuse to stop drinking soda should drink soda made with sugar and that has calories as opposed to diet soda with 0 calories, but man made sweeteners. The truth is that we know very little about how artificial sweeteners will impact us in the long run. Many studies are already associating them with various diseases, along with WEIGHT GAIN (not loss). You can burn off the calories from the regular soda, but not the side effects that may come along with the artificial sweeteners.

ACTION STEP – If you are a regular soda drinker, replace 1 glass/can/bottle of soda with a glass of water today. If you insist that you need some flavor, add a lemon. I am just asking you to cut down on your soda intake by 1 glass (can, bottle, whatever) and replace it with 8-16 ounces of water. Today I want you to shoot for a minimum of 3 glasses of water.

OK, how about a quick workout?  It’s actually more of a warm up, but it’s a good one!
