Let’s start with the first option, fighting obesity on the personal level. If you want to know how to fight obesity, you need to know why you are obese. In some cases, there are medical reasons. The most common is a thyroid problem, which a doctor will diagnose and treat to get it under control. There are other possibilities that are harder to control, but the most common cause of obesity is lifestyle choices. We do not eat right, and we are not active enough. Let’s face it, junk food usually tastes better, and video games are more fun running. I coach high school track and field, and the amount of time that these ids tell they they watch TV and play video games disgusts me. 2, sometimes even 3 hours a day? Really? Maybe You just like to sit in front of the TV and vegetate. You are about to learn why you need to ditch these habits ASAP.
You want to learn how to fight obesity. How about learning why to fight obesity. When you see the why, you may be a little more motivated. I admit that my feelings on this subject are a little extreme, but try to soak in what I am about to tell you. When you do not take care of yourself, you are killing your body, and you are showing the ones who love you how little you care about them. Have you ever heard it put that way? When you do not take care of yourself, you are lowering your quality of life, and you are shortening your lifespan. The time that you have with your loves ones is often limited, depending on how severe the obesity is. Can you play an active game with you kids? Can you go hiking with your significant other? How many years are you robbing your family and friends of having with you because you do not care enough to take care of yourself?
OK, you have a why, now let’s look at How To Fight Obesity
There are 2 key factors that you need to keep in mind on this journey.
- Nutrition
- Activity Level
Let’s start by looking at nutrition. If you try to suddenly go from where you are to a health nut, you are going to get discouraged, and you are going to give up within a few weeks, if not a few days. Take baby steps.
- Decrease your soda and coffee intake, and replace it with water or Shakeology.
- Get away from the heavily processed (white) pastas, rices and breads. Go with organic or whole wheat.
- DO NOT eat until you are full! If you get that feeling where you can not eat anymore, you had way too much!
- Eat foods that are low on the Glycemic Index, such as Shakeology
As you make more and more little changes, they will start to add up, and you will start seeing results.
OK, let’s look at how to fight obesity by increasing your activity level. I am a firm believer that anything is better than nothing when it comes to exercise. A lot of people say if your workouts are less than 30 – 60 minutes, you are wasting your time. I strongly disagree. In fact, 10 Minute Trainer PROVES them wrong! OK, what kind of activity should you be doing? This answer will be different from person to person, depending on where you stand. If you are obese to the point that walking is all you can do, START WALKING! If you are still able to do some exercises, move around a bit, then I suggest an at-home workout program. These are great because you get the benefit of a trainer running your workout, without the insane cost and traveling to the gym. Also, you do not need to feel self conscious about working out in front of others, since it is you, maybe a fried or family member, and the DVD. I will tell you right now that all workout programs ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL! In fact, many of them are a complete waste of money.
