Play Away The Pounds

I am fortunate to be one of those strange people that really enjoy working out.  If you are not strange like me, you may find it very difficult to get through, or even start a workout.  The answer to this problem is simple.  You need to find a way to work out without it feeling like working out.

Right now I am going back and forth between 2 workout programs.  I am using P90X and Body Beast.  While I enjoy both programs, I had more fun last Saturday playing football with 10 of my friends.  Did I get a workout doing that?  ABSOLUTELY!  The fact that I am still walking funny 4 days later is proof of that.  At the time, it didn’t feel like working out though.  I was just out having some fun.  What do you like to do that can help you shed some pounds, and you will have a good time doing it?  Here are some of my favorites.

  1. Hiking – this is a great way to get outside, enjoy nature, burn calories, and even get stronger.  Hiking is great for pretty much anyone, as long as you find the right trails.  If you are new to working out, look for a flatter, smoother trail.  The more in shape you are, the harder the trail you can handle.  I don’t care if you are an Olympic athlete, there are trails out there that will have even you getting tired.
  2. Riding a Bike – Bike riding is another great way to burn calories, while also having fun.  It is a great way to explore new areas, and even run errands during the day.  I am fortunate enough to live about 1 mile from the beach, and a beautiful 2.6 mile boardwalk.  Riding along the water is a great, relaxing way to get some exercise, while also taking in an amazing view.
  3. Golf – While you obviously get more out of golfing when you walk the course, any golf is better for you than nothing.  It is a great way to get outside, walk around a little, and hopefully enjoy yourself.  If you are up for it, skip the cart and walk 9 or 18 holes.  It may take a little longer, but you will get a lot more out of it.  I even tend to play better when I walk.  I feel like my body stays looser than when I spend most of the time sitting in a cart.

What is it that you like to do?  Do you like to dance, run, play football or ultimate Frisbee?  The key is for you to find something that you will enjoy, and that will help get (or keep) you in shape.  I was recently reading an article about a woman that fell in love with Roller Derby!  Play around with different sports and activities.  Try different classes.  While right now I am focusing on P90X and Body Beast, I have other programs for when I just feel like I need to do something different.  You can check out the various programs from Beachbody by CLICKING HERE!
